COMMUNICARE SCOOPS PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS |
|
Communicare was the winner of two awards at the much acclaimed annual Southern African Housing Foundation (SAHF) conference held from 10 to 13 October 2010.
Presented by the MEC for Human Settlements, Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela, Communicare’s Norwood Gardens and Riverton Mews housing developments received first prize for the Housing Project of the Year award in the over R500 000 per unit category.
According to the SAHF, these projects won the award “in recognition for the provision of affordable, good quality and well designed housing units, providing easy pedestrian access with a range of social housing and home ownership for the middle income community.”
Norwood Gardens and Riverton Mews are situated in Ruyterwacht and offer two, three and four bedroom units. The prices for these units range between R520 000 to R662 000.
According to Joel Mkunqwana, Social Housing Director of Communicare, receiving these accolades for our GAP market developments by such a prestigious institution such as SAHF, “bears testimony to the quality of our products and our commitment to affordable social housing.”
Communicare’s exhibition was also presented with the Best Exhibition on Show Award. Following the conference theme of “Greening for Sustainable Human Settlements”, Communicare’s exhibition showcased its interventions in the area of food gardening against a beautiful backdrop of our Cresswell House complex in Newlands. Plants and gardening equipment for the exhibition were sponsored by Builders Warehouse in Brooklyn.
Chris Mathias, the Managing Director of Communicare says he is humbled by the recognition of Communicare’s work at the Conference and hope that it will help set the standards for future Communicare developments even higher.

| A TRIP TO THE 'TOP OF THE WORLD'! |
| |
On 13 May 2009, sixty underprivileged children from the Wallacedene and Bloekombos Informal Settlements enjoyed a trip of a lifetime as part of Communicare’s 80th Anniversary Celebrations. A cable ride to the top of the famous Table Mountain – 1085m above sea level.
The outing put smiles on the faces of young and old and the air of excitement was tangible as everyone enjoyed the breathtaking views.
Communicare received 800 free tickets for cable car trips from the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, who is also celebrating its 80th birthday this year. This sponsorship enables Communicare to take these and other children from the communities it serves including Brooklyn, Ruyterwacht, and Diep River, as well as 79 tenants who are turning 80, on this adventure. |
